About Scott

A NEW DAY IN MINNESOTA
ABOUT SCOTT AND MARY
Scott earned a reputation as a principled reformer who put people before politics, whether fighting for affordable healthcare, improving education, or standing up for personal freedoms. A husband, father, and grandfather, Scott Jensen is running to restore truth, accountability, and balance to Minnesota.
Mary is devoted to a life of service being involved in church, community, and civic groups. She served as a veterinarian for more than 40 years taking care of cats and dogs, snakes and iguanas, rabbits and birds, and even cougars and raccoons. She likes to golf, hike & bike and has been nominated by her grandchildren as Grandmother of the Year!

GROWING UP
Scott Jensen was born and raised in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, and graduated valedictorian of his high school class in 1973. He went on to earn a degree in physiology, magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota, and later attended Luther Theological Seminary, where he made two life-changing decisions: he proposed to his wife Mary, and chose to pursue medicine.
Scott earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1981 and completed his residency at Bethesda Hospital, where he was honored as one of the nation’s top family practice residents.
After Dr. Jensen completed his residency at Bethesda Hospital, he opened his own medical practice, anchored in Watertown and Chaska. Over the years, he has put his inquisitive spirit to work for patients, working with them and asking questions in order to not only provide accurate diagnoses, but also to empower patients to take control of their own care.
In 2016, he was recognized by his peers and was named Family Physician of the Year by the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians. He also published his first book “Relationship Matters, The Foundation of Medical Care Is Fracturing”, which tells patient stories to emphasize the critical value of the patient-doctor relationship. The book expresses Dr. Jensen’s strong belief in the absolute need for patients to be their own “champion” for their health care decisions.

Career

Service
Concerned about the direction of local schools, Dr. Scott Jensen was elected to the Waconia School Board, where he served from 1993 to 2002 and earned a reputation for putting students first and asking tough questions.
In 2017, he brought that same independent spirit to the Minnesota Senate, quickly becoming known as a problem solver who challenged the political establishment. In 2019, he passed seven bipartisan bills, including landmark reforms on pharmacy benefit managers.
One of his proudest achievements was leading the Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act — cutting through gridlock to deliver emergency and long-term insulin access for Minnesotans with unanimous support.
Scott Jensen and his wife, Mary, a small animal veterinarian, have lived in Carver County, Minnesota, for over 35 years, where they raised their three children: Cristy, an anesthesiologist; Matt, an estate attorney; and Jackie, a family doctor.
Deeply rooted in faith, medicine, and service, the Jensen family reflects Scott’s lifelong commitment to community, hard work, and caring for others. With seven grandchildren, family remains Scott’s greatest joy and driving force for a better Minnesota.
